By using Witness ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Prototype, provided as-is
Witness is an early-stage prototype. It is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
2. Not advice
Witness does not provide financial, tax, legal, medical, or professional advice. Impact estimates, lifetime projections, and tier classifications are illustrative — not predictions or guarantees. Always consult a qualified professional before making donation, tax, or financial decisions.
3. Not a donation processor
Witness does not collect, hold, or transfer donations. We do not process payments and we are not a charity. All charitable contributions you log must be made directly to the charity of your choice through their own channels.
4. Your data, your responsibility
Witness stores your data locally in your browser. You are responsible for backing it up (use the Export JSON feature in your profile). We are not liable for data loss caused by clearing browser storage, device failure, or any other cause.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Witness for any unlawful purpose;
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, attack, or interfere with the service;
- Submit false, misleading, harassing, or infringing content via the contact form;
- Misrepresent your affiliation with Witness or any listed charity.
6. Third-party content
Charity names, programs, and cost-effectiveness figures are sourced from public materials published by GiveWell and the listed organizations. They are reproduced here under fair-use principles for informational purposes only. Witness is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by GiveWell or any listed charity.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of Witness is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising out of or related to your use of the app.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the app after changes means you accept the updated terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's country of residence, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
